Make SPF your VIP (Very Important Product!)
When we make our choices regarding our skin, how much thought do we give to protecting ourselves against UVA and UVB light? It is often during the few days of sunny weather we get each year or only on holidays to sunnier climes that we consider using a product to prevent these damaging rays entering our skin.
The truth is exposed areas of the body should be protected all year round as we are exposed to ultraviolet radiation even on the dullest of days. In fact, UVA can also penetrate glass so even if you know you will be indoors it is still wise to use an SPF (sun protection factor). UVA penetrates into the deeper layers of the dermis and causes wrinkles and ageing of skin to develop. UVB, although primarily affects the outer epidermal layers, burns the skin, causing permanent damage which can lead to melanomas. When choosing a sunscreen it is advisable to select one with protection against both types of ultraviolet radiation. UVB determined by the factor and UVA, usually with a star rated system or UVA in a circle. It is true that some foundations offer SPF protection but unless you are using a good layer over your entire face it is not going to be as beneficial as using a product specifically for the purpose of sun protection. I would recommend using a product with at least an SPF of 30, especially in very pale skin types.
